Sustainability for Art Experiences is developing ecosystems based on environment (Planet) and social responsibility (People) that get their own economic independence (Profit), hence they do not depend on external sources to keep them alive. This is great since as they are independent they survive on their own, and in times of crisis where funds or external economic support is scarce they can survive.

The challenge for Art Experiences is to manage and minimize the carbon foot print that travel can have, and also the massive toll on local communities (cities, towns, small communities) caused by over-tourism. The sustainable travel we inspire, plan and provide helps these problems to be solved by offsetting the environmental carbon footprint and by avoiding over tourism that destroys communities.

  • Social Responsibility

    The people we connect curious travelers to, besides giving a deep immersion and understanding of the local culture, also foster a sustainable future for culture, tradition passed on through generations. We are founders and part of ME Ecuador, a movement that features entrepreneurs that safe keep the traditions we behold as a country.

  • Environment

    As for the environment, during your journey we will CHALLENGE you to ACT SUSTAINABLY. Help offset the carbon footprint of your trip, understand the impact travelling can have on the environment, and learn how to convert such impact to be positively regenerative by planting different native plants along your journey. Give back more than you take.

  • Economic impact

    The value of each itinerary has a purpose, it helps us pay fair prices to the entrepreneurs we work with (whom also pay it forward to their communities in time or money), to improve the quality of living amongst these communities and help them achieve harmony with tourism that will protect their heritage and aim for triple impact in each tour.

Principles of Sustainability

If a project does not pass this simple test, it is philanthropy. Philanthropy is not sustainability.

At Art Experiences Travel our commitment to sustainability is inherent. Not just to be socially responsible or environmentally friendly, but because it does the business well. This is why we follow the Three Pillars of Sustainability as a guide in the implementation of each project. This test is measured in the ECONOMIC benefit that each sustainable effort represents to each experience. The measurable benefit does not necessarily denote a monetary advantage, there are times when breakeven is generated however the project becomes viable only because it would be the correct thing to do based on our values. Each pillar depends on the other two, therefore there cannot be a Social project that negatively impacts the Environment and vice versa, and in all cases the economic impact has to be present, so the project does not depend on external factors.

As we can see, to reach sustainability, each project must have either a SOCIAL (People) or ENVIRONMENTAL (Planet) connotation and must have a positive economic benefit at the end of the day. Without the economic benefit the agency recognizes that the effort is not sustainable, because it does not have the capacity to maintain itself through time by its own means or benefits. In simpler words, without financing. By having projects that save, reduce or reuse resources, they already have their own source of funding and Art Experiences will carefully watch over their well-being and correct functioning.

Local sourcing of experiences

Local entrepreneurs will make the traveler understand our culture. Fair prices (sometimes unbelievable for the entrepreneurs) are a vital point to maintain Circular Economy among the communities we work with. Less volume, higher prices, giving exclusivity and personalized service throughout the experience.

We believe that a great journey is made by listening to our clients’ purpose and connecting them to the right people, which creates the circumstance for them to become heroes. The essence of collaboration is what differentiates us.

We teach entrepreneurs to give a great experience while respecting what their passion is. We keep their passion, which is tradition, culture and habits intact, but we continuously help them give the service expected for high end customers. We teach our travelers what to expect leaving most of the experience to their curiosity, only then can they achieve a transformational experience.

We strongly believe that negotiating with the safekeepers of the culture, tradition and habits of a destination is wrong. Normally they are crafters of an art which does not have a grand demand, therefore prices or rates are very low and do not allow the artists to be true to their passion, or worse, it does not allow them to be able to live a dignified life from their passion. This is extremely dangerous because future generations see the struggle of their parents and opt for a different path resulting in the loss of culture and identity.

The economic piece is not the only factor which affects future generations’ consideration of different paths, it is also a sense of glamour. We aim to showcase these amazing people, building up their confidence, glorifying their talents, so that they are the main essence of a trip! They are who the traveler will remember, earning enough infamy and glamour for their passion to become an aspirational career for their kin.

 Why not make the traveler a part of the social change we want to develop? From painting a park to teaching their culture to local children and opening the world to them. Or something more impactful, to dedicate a couple of hours of their trip to give to those who need the most, the sick, homeless, orphaned, etc. who are in need of empathy to know things can be better…
